To Dr Mahathir, non-Malay citizens are like Russian invaders

He says Malaysia is willing to share but not until the country is “owned by foreign descendants”

KUALA LUMPUR – Is former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad equating non-Bumiputera citizens in this country to “invaders” of foreign descent?

In his latest rambling on Facebook, the 98-year-old drew parallels with Ukrainians defending their motherland against a much larger Russia.

“They are not afraid. They will continue to defend their country even if more die or are injured.

“We in Malaysia are willing to accept foreigners as citizens. We are willing to share our country but not until our beloved country is owned by foreign descendants and we become the poor in our rich country,” he wrote in a Facebook post today.

He also praised Ukraine’s efforts despite not having the resources nor the military technology to match Russia’s.

“Ukraine is too small and weak and could have surrendered to Russia. The Russians only wanted a small area but Ukraine would not give in even though it would save its cities from destruction.”

Despite saying he was going to retire from active politics following his embarrassing defeat in Langkawi in the last general election where he even lost his deposit, Mahathir is back on the political stage with a recent appearance at a PAS rally in Kota Bharu last Friday wearing a PAS uniform.

Mahathir’s own ancestry has always been on the lips of the public, where he has been coy about his roots, which can be traced to Kerala, India. 

In March, Mahathir became a member of Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra), saying this was his platform of choice to fight for Malay rights.

“Although I’m already 97-years-old, my heart still beats for the struggle of Malays, who are now facing more problems than other races. This is not about racism.

“We need to see Malays getting their share in our country, as now they do not control the economy and politics. If we do not save the Malays, our country will be beset with problems,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.

On February 10, Mahathir and 12 others left Pejuang after the party he founded cut ties with Gerakan Tanah Air. – July 24, 2023
