We won’t let 3R provocations slide during polls: IGP

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said a 32-member task force specialising on 3R issues will be given a week to finish probes

KUALA LUMPUR — The police will not turn a blind eye to any provocations involving the 3Rs (race, religion, and royalty), especially those done on social media platforms throughout the campaign period of the state polls.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the department’s 32-member task force specialising on 3R issues will be given a maximum of seven days to conclude their investigations.

“Investigations will be open for seven days. This includes offenses during the campaigning period and even after the elections,” he told a press conference at Bukit Aman police headquarters today.

“We will ensure that they are complete and delivered to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (within the period).”

Razarudin said that the seven-day deadline is the ideal timeline to avoid tardiness, but added that the police will not always use up the whole period for its investigations.

Meanwhile, Razarudin advised all state poll candidates and their representatives to avoid touching on sensitive matters, including the 3R issue, when campaigning.

He also requested the candidates to inform the police and apply for permits before conducting their walkabouts and talks.

This was to prevent inter-party collisions and unwanted goadings between supporters, he added. – July 29, 2023
