On Deepavali, Hindus throng temples seeking blessings, prosperity and light

Scoop captured the festivities at the Sri Maha Mariamman Devasthanam temple in Shah Alam

9:30 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Deepavali morning dawned bright and early for many Hindu devotees who made their way to temples to start the festivities by seeking blessings.

They also brought offerings of fruits and flowers, and lighted oil lamps which are significant for this festival that celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, and good over evil.

Wearing colourful new clothes for the season, devotees also sought blessings for their children, as seen by many who held forth babies and toddlers for the priest to bless.

After prayers are offered, families will return to beautifully decorated homes to enjoy feasting together and to exchange sweets and gifts. – November 12, 2023
