KUALA LUMPUR – The cabinet has given approval in principle to redevelop the KL Sentral station here, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

The redevelopment will be carried out by Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd (MRCB) and will be a fully private venture, with zero cost implications to the government.

The project is expected to cost more than RM1 billion.

“In return, MRCB will receive air rights to develop the area above the station into commercial buildings like condominiums etc.

“The government will get a sophisticated and modern station to fulfil the needs of passengers.”

He said when KL Sentral was first built it was meant to serve 100,000 passengers a day.

“But the number of users now has increased to 200,000 passengers a day. That is why the government believes the transportation hub needs to be redeveloped.

“Operations will also go on as usual during the redevelopment as there will be no relocation.” – August 2, 2023
