Sept 9 set for Pulai, Simpang Jeram by-elections: EC

This follows passing of seats’ incumbent representative Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub on July 23

12:40 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – The Election Commission (EC) has set September 9 for the Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state by-elections in Johor.

EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh said candidate nominations for the two seats will fall on August 26, while early voting will be on September 5.

This follows the passing of both seats’ incumbent representative, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, on July 23.

Ghani said two election campaign enforcement teams will be established for Pulai’s campaign, while one team will monitor the Simpang Jeram campaigns.

He added that the Pulai constituency comprises 166,653 voters, while the Simpang Jeram state constituency has 40,379 voters.

Salahuddin was the Pulai MP and Simpang Jeram assemblyman since 2018.

He died at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star after undergoing brain haemorrhage surgery. – August 3, 2023
