Securing RM25 bil investment in Kulim proves PM does not sideline Kedah

Move will benefit local youths, create job opportunities, boost local economy, says student association

SG PETANI –  Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s success in attracting investments amounting to €5 billion (RM25 billion) by Infineon Technologies AG in Kulim, Kedah, proves that he is not biassed against any state, including those governed by the opposition.

Kedah native Aliff Naif Mohd Fizam, 25, said the development also shows an increase in foreign investor confidence in the prime minister’s administration.

“That is a very good thing, showing that international investors are confident in Malaysia’s capacity to develop their businesses and will certainly open job opportunities for young people, especially in Kedah.

“Even though Kedah’s leaders are quite strong in opposing the central government, the prime minister still brings in investments into the state, and that shows his ability to attract high-value investments to Malaysia,” said the chief coordinator of the Social Democratic Organisation (Demuda).

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Kedah chapter of the Peninsular Malay Students Association, Ahmad Qusyairi Ahmad Zaini, said the investment will benefit local youths in terms of job opportunities and will also stimulate economic activities in Kulim.

“I am confident that more Kedahans who have skills in the field of Technical Education and Vocational Training can be absorbed to work in this manufacturing sector with a decent salary without having to migrate out and be able to improve their economy and standard of living,” he added.

German chip maker Infineon Technologies AG has said it will invest up to €5 billion over the next five years to build the world’s largest 200mm silicon carbide power fabrication plant in Kulim, Kedah. – August 4, 2023
