KUALA LUMPUR – The nation’s parcel hailing (p-hailing) companies will be more transparent with their riders in the setting and calculation of their wages, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Following a meeting with stakeholders, Anwar said the p-hailing companies have promised to further examine and study the views of the riders regarding the matter.
In a statement today, Anwar said he had a meeting with 24 p-hailing service operators following the commitment he had made with representatives of the riders on July 22.
He said during the meeting, he had raised the complaints of the riders, particularly on the issue of wages.
“Further reviews are essential to enhance the delivery rates. It is important to prioritise the interests of consumers, especially those in rural areas, to avoid burdening them, while also considering the company’s capabilities,” Anwar added.
Anwar also said the government agreed to increase allocations for upskilling and training initiatives for p-hailing riders, which would be led by the Human Resources Ministry.
The meeting was also attended by the transport, communications and digital, human resources ministers and other senior government officials.
“During this session (today), five representatives of the riders were also present to express their views and listen to the company’s feedback,” he said.
“The discussion revolved around the income of the riders, the social safety net and the need for upskilling training. I also heard the views and complaints from companies operating outside the Klang Valley that focus on rural services.
“This effort underscores the government’s responsiveness and commitment to safeguarding the interests of all stakeholders, bolstering income growth, and ensuring business sustainability.” – August 8, 2023
