SHAH ALAM – Authorities have recovered part of the black box for the ill-fated Beechcraft Model 390 private jet that crashed in the Elmina township, killing 10 people.

According to Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, the voice cockpit recorder was found at the accident site while efforts to gather victims’ remains were underway.

“The cockpit voice recorder was found by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) and has been sent to our labs for analysis,” he said during a press conference at the accident site.

“Investigations into the plane’s alleged engine failure are also being carried out by the relevant authorities.”

The voice cockpit recorder is one part of a plane’s black box with the other component being the flight data recorder.

The search team deployed here is still on the lookout for the latter component, Hussein said.

He also said that as of approximately 10.30pm, the remains of the 10 known victims have been found and sent for postmortem processing at Klang Hospital.

“We have completed our search efforts for today after having found 10 bodies and five unidentified body parts,” he said.

He noted that authorities will be resuming their work tomorrow to comb the accident site in case other remains had been overlooked today.

“The postmortem process should be completed by tomorrow morning or afternoon, depending on DNA analysis works and other related processes.”

Earlier today, it was reported that the Beechcraft Model 390 flight had crashed two minutes before it was due to land at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has since said that the aircraft did not make any mayday calls prior to the accident which took place at about 2.50pm today. – August 17, 2023
