KUALA LUMPUR – A lorry driver, who witnessed yesterday’s plane crash in Bandar Elmina, attempted to put out the fire that engulfed a motorcyclist.

In a video posted on TikTok yesterday evening, a user by the name of Affy Ndy shared a 1-minute-and-20-second video recounting the moments after the fatal crash, which claimed the lives of 10 people, including delivery rider Muhamad Hafiz Muhamad Salleh, 32.

Describing in the video’s caption how the crash had happened before his eyes, the user said he had approached the crash site, where he believed he heard cries for help.

“I got out of my lorry (and) I heard (Hafiz) crying for help. I took the fire extinguisher I had in my lorry and headed towards (Hafiz), who was still moving at that time.

“As I tried to get closer to him, there was debris blowing up. Within a few seconds, I sprayed (Hafiz) with my fire extinguisher, but it wasn’t enough to put out the flames on his body.

“I tried to save him. I’m sorry. Al-Fatihah for the deceased.”

In the comments section, Affy detailed how he had seen Hafiz crawling while crying out “Allah” in his final moments.

Besides Hafiz, e-hailing driver Sharipuddin Shaari was also a casualty of the air crash.

At about 2.50pm yesterday, the Beechcraft Model 360 plane crashed, resulting in the deaths of two crew members and six passengers, one of whom was Pahang’s Pelangai assemblyman, Datuk Seri Johari Harun.

The flight, which crashed two minutes before it was due to land at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang, did not make any mayday calls prior to its crash. – August 18, 2023
