KUALA LUMPUR — Former Johor state speaker Suhaizan Kaiat will be contesting the Pulai parliament by-election under the Pakatan Harapan ticket, said Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.
In a statement, today, Mohamad also announced Nazri Abdul Rahman as the PH component party’s candidate for the Simpang Jeram state seat.
An engineer with the Muar Municipal Council (MPM), Nazri who is also the party’s Bakri division deputy chief was known to have assisted the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayob during the latter’s stint in the state constituency.
Mohamad, popularly known as Mat Sabu said a decision to form a selection committee for both seats was made during the party’s national meeting held on August 15.
Committee members include Amanah vice president Adly Zahari, secretary-general Datuk Dr Hatta Ramli, vice president Datuk Mahfuz Omar, women’s chief Aiman Athirah Al Jundi, youth chief Hasbie Muda and Johor Amanah state chief Aminolhuda Hasan.
“The committee then held a meeting and subsequently submitted its candidate list to the party’s central committee on August 17.
“Considering all factors and feedback from party members during the meeting, these are candidates who will be representing PH and the unity government for the upcoming by-elections,” he said.
Mat Sabu added that both candidates will be formally introduced during Salahuddin’s remembrance function at Jeram Padang constituency on August 23.
The Election Commission has set September 9 as polling day while nomination day will be held on August 26.
Both by-elections are being held following the death of incumbent Salahuddin on July 23 due to bleeding in the brain. — August 19, 2023
