Focus on coming by-elections, not blame game: Wanita Umno

Wing chief Noraini Ahmad says her team will help to strategise how to regain public support

KUALA LUMPUR – Wanita Umno has called on its members and party leadership to focus on the by-elections to be held soon.

Women’s chief Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad said her team will continue to be with the party’s leadership in devising the best strategy to strengthen the party and garner people’s support for Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN).

“BN’s prestige in the six state elections held recently was the responsibility of the entire leadership. This is not the time to blame any party,” she said in a statement yesterday.

She said all party members need to accept the results of state elections with an open heart.

“They need to empower the unity government for the sake of the country’s stability and people’s prosperity. This unity agenda is very big for all of us to join in building the country.”

BN’s ally Pakatan Harapan will be fielding former Johor speaker Suhaizan Kaiat in the Pulai by-election while Amanah’s Nazri Abdul Rahman would be defending the Simpang Jeram state seat.

The two seats fell vacant following the death of Amanah deputy president Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub on July 23.

The Election Commission has fixed August 26 for nominations, September 5 for early voting and September 9 for polling for both by-elections. – August 21, 2023
