KUALA TERENGGANU – State governments led by the opposition should emulate the Terengganu government’s move to use the same National Day logo and theme as the federal government.
Terengganu Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah Raja Ahmad, in lauding the decision announced by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar yesterday, said National Day should be celebrated by all parties in the spirit of unity regardless of political affiliation.
He said any difference of opinion should be set aside in order to build a more prosperous country, and the people should not be burdened and dragged into endless politics.
“We just had the 15th general election nine months ago and the state polls in six states last week, and we will have several by-elections due to the recent departure of two elected representatives.
“Have mercy on the people who are struggling with economic uncertainties after two series of elections that have worn them out mentally and physically,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Yesterday, Samsuri said that the Terengganu government would be using the same National Day logo and theme introduced at the federal level and not that which was suggested by the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Youth wing.
PN Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari had previously proposed that the four states under the PN administration use a different National Day logo and theme for state-level celebrations.
The media reported Fadhli as saying Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu, which are under PN rule, would likely use the alternative logo and theme Teguh Muafakat Malaysia Sejahtera (Strong Consensus for a Prosperous Malaysia) launched by PN Youth. – August 21, 2023
