6:51 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – The highest bid for the special number plate ‘M1M’ reached up to RM588,888 on the first day of bidding, done via the Road Transport Department’s JPJeBid system today.

Facebook user Mohd Shaheen shared a screenshot on the JPJ eBID INFO OFFICIAL page, which showed that an individual had placed the highest bid for the ‘M1M’ plate at 1.26pm today.

The Transport Ministry has offered bidding for special number plates with the prefix and suffix ‘M’, and it will be available for public bidding until September 4 (10pm). This is being done in conjunction with the 66th Merdeka Day celebrations.

The suffix and prefix ‘M’ mean Malaysia Merdeka.

The other number plate that exceeded RM100,000 today was ‘M99M’ (RM150,000), while the bid for ‘M177M’ reached RM14,177 as of 11.20am today.

Other number plates that have high bids include ‘M77M’ (RM22,000), ‘M333M’ (RM18,000), and ‘M63M’ (RM10,000).

The bids start from RM300 (running number), RM800 (popular), RM3,000 (attractive), and RM20,000 (golden).

Meanwhile, Facebook users are sharing screenshots of the bids of certain numbers on the JPJ eBID page, while sharing bidding tips with the public.

Unsuccessful bidders will have their money refunded within 14 working days.

The government had earlier generated RM34 million from the release of ‘FF’ special number plates. – August 31, 2023
