KL stalls get boost with RM10 mil allocation

1:45 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has allocated an additional RM10 million to develop stalls here.

“I was informed that the fund allocation is insufficient for the city this year, so we will increase another RM10 million for this purpose,” he said during the launch of the Lestari Niaga @ Kuala Lumpur programme in Brickfields here today.

Meanwhile, Anwar granted partial approval to a request by Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar to bring in 15,000 migrant workers to facilitate local businesses, such as textiles, gold, and barber shops.

“Due to the urgent need (for migrant workers), I will give a partial grant for the three categories.

“I also ask that (Sivakumar) present the necessary papers in the cabinet meeting this Friday.”

Anwar said the nation should instead seek other solutions to overcome the shortage of workers in those sectors.

He added that this is so local youths and TVET (technical and vocational education and training) graduates are given job opportunities, and suggested that they be given training and incentives to work in those sectors.

Anwar also warned that restaurateurs who sublet their eateries to non-citizens will have their operating licences revoked.

“Licences given to locals must be used by locals. If found that the licences are given to foreigners, they will be revoked and given to another person,” he said amid applause.

Over the years, Kuala Lumpur City Hall has shut down several premises that were illegally run by non-citizens. – September 4, 2023
