Standstill jam on Elite Highway due to major crash

Accident involves oil tanker truck, motorcycle leads to hours-long lane closures

KUALA LUMPUR – An accident involving an oil tanker truck and a motorcycle on Elite Highway has led to standstill traffic and lane closures which have lasted for hours.

PLUS Malaysia Bhd said on X (formerly known as Twitter) that the accident occurred at about 2.08pm at KM1.2 southbound from Shah Alam to Seafield.

It added that all lanes on both sides of the highway have been closed off to undergo sweeping operations, following an oil spill due to the accident.

The clean-up is still ongoing as of 5.06pm, and reportedly led to a domino effect that caused a jam on the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) Highway as well.

The NKVE Highway saw a 5km and 6km traffic jam northbound and southbound, respectively.

Meanwhile, traffic on Elite Highway built up before and after the Shah Alam toll plaza, as well as a 12km jam northbound.

The highway concessionaire also said that two Shah Alam intersections heading towards Elite Highway – the Subang and Setia Alam intersections – have been fully closed off.

As such, it urged motorists to plan ahead and use alternative routes on the Federal Highway to reach Elite Highway.

Motorists also took to their social media platforms to bemoan the time-consuming traffic.

“I left Setia Alam almost half an hour ago via NKVE towards Kuala Lumpur. (Traffic) is still slow-moving. What’s going on?” an X user named @toraktech asked.

Another X user who goes by @liyannaahmad lamented how her trip from Setia Alam to Sunway Velocity took two hours. – September 8, 2023
