Elmina crash: initial report to go public tomorrow, says Loke

Report expected to contain all relevant facts, information, says transport minister

10:20 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – The initial report on the Elmina plane crash tragedy will be issued tomorrow, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

This is in line with his forecast, and he hopes that the report will be presented to the public before Malaysia Day, which falls on September 16.

“All the facts (of the crash) will be in the report tomorrow.”

“We will upload the report on our (Transport Ministry) website by 10am tomorrow morning,” he said while launching three new Kelana Jaya LRT line coaches.

On August 17, a private plane crashed in Bandar Elmina, Shah Alam, which resulted in the deaths of 10 individuals – including two crew members, six passengers, a motorcyclist, and a motorist.

The flight crashed two minutes before it was due to land at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang after its departure from the Langkawi International Airport.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia later said the aircraft did not make any mayday calls prior to the accident.

On August 29, Loke said United States experts had retrieved data from the memory puck, which contains voice recordings of the flight’s final 30 minutes before its crash.

This came after experts in Singapore were unable to recover the data due to “technological issues and restrictions”.

Meanwhile, Loke said the new LRT coaches will benefit passengers by reducing waiting time from 4.4 minutes to 3.8 minutes.

Anticipating three more coaches by the end of this year, he hopes that waiting time next year could be further reduced to three minutes.

The Seremban MP added that the new coaches have also reduced each coach’s load factor from 125% above capacity to 110%. – September 14, 2023
