KUALA LUMPUR – The lorry driver who slammed into 13 other vehicles on Wednesday at KM5.7 of Jalan Persiaran Utara in Putrajaya will be charged in court next Monday.

Putrajaya district police chief Asmadi Abdul Aziz said the remand period for the suspect has already been extended.

“Investigation papers regarding the case have been completed and referred to the public prosecutor, along with orders to prosecute the suspect on Monday.

“The suspect is expected to be charged under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said in a statement today.

The incident occurred when all vehicles involved had stopped to give way to a Le Tour de Langkawi convoy rehearsal.

Based on CCTV footage of the incident circulated on social media, several cars were stopped on the highway to make way for traffic police escorting the convoy.

Moments later, a lorry appeared and attempted to change lanes while slowing down but failed to brake in time to avoid slamming into six cars, three motorcycles, a police outrider’s motorcycle, and two lorries. – September 23, 2023
