Missing family of four in Pulau Perhentian have been found

In a social media post, the user who originally called for help says they are safe and will retract the missing persons report

KUALA LUMPUR – The family of four who went missing during a holiday in the Terengganu resort island of Pulau Perhentian last Friday have been found.

An update by the man who pleaded for help to locate the family said that his relatives and two children were discovered safe.

“Alhamdulillah, my mother in law and brother in law, as well as my two children have been safely found,” the Facebook user, known as Ah Pek, said.

“Thank you to all friends, the police and all who were involved in solving the case.

“Now I am on my way from Terengganu to return to Kluang to retract my (missing persons) report as the case has been solved.

Earlier, Ah Pek took to Facebook to ask for help as his children, mother-in-law and younger brother, apparently vanished during the holiday.

Ah Pek, posted that he last contacted them on September 29, and that the car they were in was parked at the Kuala Besut jetty before they got on a boat to the island.

He also said he had lodged a report at the Besut police headquarters last night.

Following the report, police said the family members had left the island and reached the mainland jetty in Kuala Besut on Sunday (October 1).

A boat operator informed the police that the phones of two adults on the trip were inoperable as they had been drenched in water.

However, Ah Pek has indicated that the search for the missing family members took a fortunate turn.

“On the condition of my children, I will give updates as soon as I reach home. Who would I be without your help(?),” he said on his latest Facebook post.

“Once more, thank you very much to those who assisted, prayed for and reached out. May god reward your good deeds and intentions.” – October 3, 2023
