Bernas refutes viral ‘plastic rice’ claims, assures imported rice safe to eat

6:48 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Bernas has denied claims made by certain irresponsible parties following a viral message on social media speculating that its products are mixed with “plastic rice”.

In a statement released today, Bernas said it ensures a high level of compliance and strict quality monitoring at every stage of procurement for imported and local rice supplies.

“All imported rice types must meet strict requirements and undergo a thorough quality inspection process starting from the supplier country to Malaysia,” it said.

“The supply of imported rice is also provided with a certificate confirming the quality and specifications of the rice, which is closely monitored as determined by the government.

“This is intended to prevent any form of unintentional malpractice.”

Regarding the alleged existence of “plastic rice” in the local market, Bernas assured that the imported rice supplied was pure and safe for public consumption.

Bernas advised the public not to believe fake news spread by irresponsible parties and stated that it would not hesitate to take legal action against any party that spreads baseless accusations to tarnish its reputation.
