Unofficial: BN’s Amizar wins Pelangai by-election

As at 7.33pm, he has received nearly double the votes of Perikatan’s Kasim Samat

KUALA LUMPUR – Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Amizar Abu Adam has won the Pelangai by-election, the unofficial tally shows.

As at 7.33pm today, Amizar had gained 6,077 votes, almost double the number of ballots gained by Perikatan Nasional contender Kasim Samat who received 3,142.

Meanwhile independent candidate Haslihelmy DM Zulhasni may lose his deposit after gaining only 44 votes.

On Facebook, MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong congratulated Amizar over the win.

“It is evident that he is the ideal choice for Pelangai, and we have full confidence that YB Datuk Amizar will continue to serve the people diligently and effectively, representing their voices in the Pahang state assembly,” Wee said.

According to Bernama earlier, the polling process for the Pelangai by-election, which began at 8 this morning, concluded at 6pm when all nine polling centres were closed.

All ballot boxes, from 31 streams, were taken to the vote-tallying centre at Dewan Orang Ramai Felda Kemasul, here, before the official results, expected to be announced at 9 tonight.

At 4pm, the Election Commission (EC) reported that the voter turnout had reached 64%.

There are a total of 16,456 eligible voters in the state seat for the by-election, including 73 postal ballots issued for 36 police personnel and three overseas absentee voters.

However, no early voting centres were opened, even though early voting was set for October 3, after the EC issued 73 ballot papers to those eligible for postal voting. – October 7, 2023
