Umno man garners 7,324 ballots in poll for state seat, which saw 72.12% turnout

KUALA LUMPUR – Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Amizar Abu Adam has won the Pelangai by-election today with a majority of 2,949 votes.

The Bentong Umno committee member secured a total of 7,324 votes to win the state seat, surpassing Perikatan Nasional’s Kasim Samat, who garnered 4,375 votes. The independent candidate Haslihelmy DM Zulhasni, on the other hand, received only 47 votes, resulting in the forfeiture of his election deposit.

The official announcement of the results was made by elections officer Datuk Mohammad Shahid Ismail at the Felda Kemasul Public Hall, the designated official tallying centre for the by-election.

Shahid revealed that the voter turnout for the day stood at a notable 72.12%.

Out of a total of 16,456 eligible voters, this figure includes 36 policemen and three overseas absentee voters who fulfilled their civic duties in this by-election. – October 7, 2023
