Health Ministry launches survey on GEG bill via MySejahtera app

Survey is open to all Malaysians from today, requiring an app update for both Android and Apple devices

4:08 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – The Health Ministry has launched a survey to gather feedback and gauge public sentiments over the Generational Endgame (GEG) initiative, which will see the ban of tobacco and smoking products to anyone born on or after January 1, 2007.

In a statement today, Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa called on all Malaysians to take a few minutes to complete the survey which will be made available via the MySejahtera app.

“Everyone needs to play a role and support the government’s efforts to present the bill and the GEG provision by voicing their rights through this survey as well as the available media channels,” she said.

The GEG provision, she stressed, is a bold and ambitious piece of legislation that has the potential to make a significant reduction in tobacco use and smoking-related deaths in the country, as well as healthcare costs.

“This is how we will be protecting our youth, loved ones, and those around us from the dangers of smoking by preventing the addiction in the first place.”

The survey is open to all citizens via the app, from today onwards, requiring an app update from the Google Playstore for Android phones, or the Apple App store for iOS devices.

Among the areas the survey covers include the public’s views on the health risks of smoking, the GEG provision, and the Control of Tobacco Products for Public Health Bill 2023.

The latest development comes after the government decided to postpone the second reading of the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Bill 2023 in the Dewan Rakyat, which had been scheduled, yesterday. – October 11, 2023
