Court fines 12 involved in tow truck fracas RM3,000 each

Riot had occurred on October 2 at Kg Malaysia Tambahan

KUALA LUMPUR – Twelve men belonging to separate groups who were involved in a riot at Kg Malaysia Tambahan recently have been fined RM3,000 each.

Magistrate Illi Marisqa Kharizan sentenced them after all the accused pleaded guilty to the offence when they were brought to court, here, this morning.

She also ordered all the accused to serve three months in jail, should they fail to pay the fine.

The first group comprised Muhammad Farid Khalid, 35; Amir Aizuddin Alzafiran, 23; Muhammad Lum Chang Sing, 24; Mohammad Hakimi Mohd Hanafi, 27, and Muhammad Firdaus, 26.

The second group was made up of Chan Weng Loon, 25; Khoo Ming Ru, 30; Wong Jia Jiet, 26; Tan Jin Aun, 26; Wong Zi Jing, 25, a 19-year-old known as Kesavan, and Wan Yi Han, 28.

All 12 accused, who were charged together today, pleaded guilty to have been present, participated or were found to be present in the riot that took place in front of Trinity Aquara Condominium in Kg Malaysia Tambahan, Cheras, on October 2, around 1.37am.

They were accused of having bricks, firearms, explosive materials, or any deadly materials that can be used as weapons to attack during the riot.

Their charge was framed under Section 148 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum five-year jail term, or fine, or both upon conviction.

Lawyer Hannan Ishak represented the first group while Tripajit Singh appeared for the second group today.

Meanwhile, prosecution was carried out by deputy public prosecutor Zuhairi Osman.

It was previously reported that a riot involving firearms had broken out at Kg Malaysia Tambahan, where two groups of tow truck drivers were fighting over towing a car that had been involved in an accident.

On October 3, Cheras district police chief Zam Halim Jamaluddin was reported to have said that 10 individuals had been placed under remand following the incident. – October 12, 2023
