Court sets Nov 23 to hear Muhyiddin’s passport application

Former PM hopes to resolve issue before month long family holiday in the UK in December

KUALA LUMPUR – The sessions court here is set to hear former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s application to retrieve his passport on November 23.

Judge Azura Alwi fixed the date at today’s case management.

She also fixed November 8 for the prosecution to file their affidavit in reply to Muhyiddin’s application, and November 17 for Muhyiddin’s counsel to file their reply, should there be a need.

She then fixed November 21 for both parties to file written submissions before the case hearing.

Muhyiddin, however, was not present in court today as his attendance is exempted.

He is represented by lawyers Datuk K. Kumaraendran and Amer Hamzah Arshad, while prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Nor Asma Ahmad.

Muhyiddin had filed the application on October 16 to retrieve his passport for a family trip to the United Kingdom as well as a health checkup in Singapore.

In his application, the Bersatu president said his family trip will take place between December 15 and January 11.

Muhyiddin was charged with three counts of corruption and four counts involving abuse of power back in March.

Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Datuk Muhammad Jamil Hussin, however, granted Muhyiddin a discharge not amounting to an acquittal on his four counts involving abuse of power, on the account that the charges were defective.

However, he still faces three charges related to money laundering, amounting to RM200 million, in connection to the Jana Wibawa project.

Muhyiddin filed an application earlier this month to quash the remaining three charges. – October 25, 2023
