Lawyer released on bail in ongoing probe into local airline

However, cops to call in 62-year-old again to complete questioning

4:49 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – A lawyer arrested to facilitate investigations into a local airline and a company was released on police bail on Friday.

Bukit Aman’s commercial crime investigation department director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said that the 62-year-old individual was released at about 9pm on Friday at the Pudu police station.

“However, he will be called up again to complete the recording of his statement,” Ramli said, as quoted by the Star.

According to the daily, Ramli also said that the remands for two former i-Serve Technology & Vacation Sdn Bhd employees are expected to expire today.

The two individuals are a 33-year-old woman who was a finance assistant at the company in 2013 and a 48-year-old man who was employed as a research and development manager in 2006.

The remand for the fourth suspect, a 30-year-old woman, will expire tomorrow.

It was previously reported that all four individuals were arrested last Thursday in connection with investigations into the co-founder of a local airline, who, along with his wife and son, are being probed under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

It was also reported that police are identifying assets belonging to this co-founder, who has a “Datuk” title, and his wife and son, as the assets are believed to have been obtained from money-laundering activities.

The trio has since been released after their remand orders expired.

Another suspect, a man in his 40s, was subsequently arrested in Bangsar earlier this week, and items such as luxury handbags, wristwatches, jewellery, laptops and a CPU were seized.

Also seized were documents on i-Serve Technology, the company of which the local airline co-founder is a shareholder. This company had been fined by Bank Negara Malaysia for operating without a proper licence for accepting deposits. – October 29, 2023
