KUALA LUMPUR – Bersatu’s state divisions will assume the management of its Kuala Kangsar and Labuan branches, respectively, in view of an ongoing disciplinary probe launched against its respective MPs.

In a statement today, party secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin said the decision was made by the party’s supreme council.

“Bersatu is committed to empowering Perikatan Nasional, which has received the mandate and support of the people in the recent general and state elections.

“Therefore, Bersatu will not compromise with any breach of discipline from its members, especially involving MPs or assemblymen.

“In that regard, Bersatu’s supreme council has decided that the party’s state leadership will take over the management of Kuala Kangsar and Labuan branches while waiting for a decision to be rendered by the party’s disciplinary board against both heads of the said divisions who are also MPs,” he said in a Facebook post.

In addition, Hamzah added that Bersatu MPs are steadfast in their support for party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, and any attempts to split the party will not succeed.

The latest developments come after Labuan MP Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman on Monday followed in the footsteps of Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid in expressing support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership.

Both men reportedly said they were ready to face action from their party.

On another matter, Hamzah announced that party vice-president Datuk Radzi Jidin has been appointed as Federal Territories Bersatu chief, replacing Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman. – November 2, 2023
