Grab extends RM1 mil aid to Palestine through Mercy Malaysia

Company says it is committed to assisting those affected by providing access to medicine, food, clean water

KUALA LUMPUR – Grab will be donating RM1 million to Mercy Malaysia’s Palestine Relief Fund in a bid to extend crucial aid and humanitarian support.

In a statement, Grab Malaysia also encourages its users to contribute to the fund via GrabPay or convert their GrabRewards and match the amount donated via GrabRewards from November 8, 2023, to May 8, 2024.

“Grab Malaysia aims to meet the critical needs of those impacted by helping provide access to medicine, food, water supply, and more, ensuring that their well-being is prioritised.

“It firmly emphasises its commitment to humanity and peace and unequivocally opposes any violence that threatens these basic human rights.

The company supports all efforts dedicated to establishing a lasting peace that is true and just,” it says.

Last week, the e-hailing and delivery company was heavily criticised on social media after screenshots of an Instagram post allegedly published by Chloe Tong, wife of Grab co-founder Anthony Tan and daughter of The Edge Media Group owner Tan Sri Tong Kooi Ong, describing her holiday to Israel.

It was subsequently shared by a user on X (formerly known as Twitter), who called for a boycott of Grab as it allegedly supported Israel.

In response, Grab said it stands on the side of humanity, hoping for a ceasefire and peace after becoming the latest brand to be hit by calls for boycotts across social media platforms following the ongoing war in Gaza.

While the tweet was subsequently deleted, social media remains abuzz with retweets calling for a boycott of Grab. – November 6, 2023
