Strong Selangor-Putrajaya ties a boon for state’s Budget 2024, says Amirudin

MB says state’s planned schemes can be pushed more aggressively due to close relationship

8:07 PM MYT

SHAH ALAM – The Selangor administration’s strong relationship with Putrajaya has allowed for a “more aggressive” budget for the state in 2024, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

Amirudin, who tabled Selangor’s 2024 budget at the state assembly building today, said that this year’s budget presentation was the lengthiest in history.

“As you heard, it took me about three hours to present the budget,” Amirudin said in jest during a press conference after tabling the bill.

“Our initiatives (for next year) can be pushed more aggressively compared to budgets for previous years.

“This is due to the close relationship between the state government and the federal administration, as well as our compatibility in highlighting Selangor’s potential and abilities.”

The state’s Budget 2024, which proposes a total allocation value of RM2.53 billion for the state, is an increase of RM80 million from the previous year.

One of the initiatives Amirudin highlighted in the budget was the state administration’s plan to consolidate the administration of Subang Jaya, Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya and Klang into a single “Klang Valley Raya” administration next year.

This, Amirudin said, will create a standardised process for licences issued by local authorities and empower townships to be more mature growth areas.

He added that this initiative aims to optimise government resources and reduce redundancy. – November 10, 2023
