KUALA LUMPUR – The joy of the festive season took a sombre turn after a motorcycle convoy collided with two lorries on the North-South Expressway, leading to a traffic crawl that has lasted for hours.

A TikTok user, @alongfarmingnft, shared a video of the aftermath of the accident in Gurun, Kedah, where motorcycle riders collided with the pair of lorries.

According to the video, the motorcyclists involved suffered minor injuries. However, the number of victims could not be confirmed at press time.

A Facebook user, Wan Faizah Al Fattah, claimed that the motorcycle convoy crashed into the lorries from the rear.

Due to the accident, traffic congestion has built up along the North-South Expressway, leaving some netizens stuck for around two to three hours.

The Malaysian Highway Authority, known as @llmtrafik on X (formerly Twitter), reported that this was partly because the left lane was closed at KM72 from Pendang to Gurun.

The authority had anticipated more than two million vehicles on the North-South Expressway in conjunction with Deepavali celebrations this weekend.

The KL-Karak Expressway, East Coast Expressway Phase 1, and East Coast Expressway Phase 2 are expected to have 173,000, 71,000, and 50,000 vehicles, respectively. – November 11, 2023
