KUALA LUMPUR – Floods are predicted to hit a few parts of Kelantan as early as 1am tomorrow if heavy rain continues today over the state, the Drainage and Irrigation Department said.

In an advisory at 4pm posted on X, the department said its flood prediction simulation model warned of possible inundation if significant rainfall continues today.

Areas that could be hit as early as 1am tomorrow are Kuala Krai (Kg Kuala Nal, Kg Bedal, Kg Mesek, Kg Sg Durian, Kg Batu Jong, Kg Sg Embak and Kg Manjor), Machang (Kg Bunut, Kg Buncit and Kg Gelong Gajah) and Jeli (Kg Layat and Kg Berdang).

Other areas in Machang could also be affected by 6am tomorrow, including Kg Pangkal Berangan, Kg Wakaf Bata, Padang Kelupang and Kg Awah.

The above areas are near several rivers such as Sg Nal, Sg Mesek, Sg Durian, Sg Lebir, Sg Sat and Sg Pergau.

If continuous rain persists, floods may also spread to Kg Kok Majid and Kg Sg Pinang, in the Tumpat district, by 4pm tomorrow. These areas are near Sg Kelantan.

The drainage department also warned that Kg Sakar in Pasir Mas, also near Sg Kelantan, could be flooded by 11pm if rainy weather continues.

METMalaysia, meanwhile, has been warning in recent days of continuous heavy rain in Terengganu and Kelantan this weekend until November 20.  – November 18, 2023
