Agency says woman’s report against Maritime Adm Datuk Hamid Mohd Amin was ‘personal’

KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director-general, Maritime Adm Datuk Hamid Mohd Amin, will fully cooperate with police amid an alleged sexual harassment case.

The MMEA’s corporate communications unit said an incident where a woman lodged a police report and linked it to Hamid and his family was personal, with the potential to jeopardise his reputation and dignity.

It added that the incident could affect the image of his family and the MMEA as an enforcement agency.

“As such, the director-general will provide his full cooperation as police carry out their investigations,” it said in a statement.

“We request the public’s cooperation to not make speculations or accusations that could affect the investigation process.”

Earlier today, it was reported that a woman had lodged a police report against the director-general of a government agency over allegations of sexual harassment.

She purported that she contacted the individual to discuss potential investment prospects last year, when the latter was in a different department in the same agency.

She also claimed that the individual made lewd comments to her after a meeting. – November 21, 2023
