‘Viva la Vida’ for Coldplay fans as some start queuing for wristbands at 9am

Fans sit on the ground eating packet rice while waiting for counter to open at noon

KUALA LUMPUR – A crowd of Coldplay fans has been growing outside the Bukit Jalil National Stadium here since 9am as they eagerly await to collect their wristbands for tonight’s concert.

A video on X (formerly Twitter) showed that fans are willing to sit on the ground having packet rice for breakfast while waiting for the counter to open at 12pm.

There was also a queue at the official merchandise counter as early as 9.30am. Items being sold include T-shirts, hoodies, water bottles, programme books, posters and more.

Concertgoers are only allowed to enter the stadium at 5pm while the Grammy-winning band is set to take the stage at 8.45pm.

Some 80,000 people are expected at Coldplay’s first concert ever in Malaysia, despite objections from certain conservative groups, including religious leaders – mainly from PAS – who have called for its cancellation, owing to concerns over morality and the ongoing Israeli occupation of Gaza.

Tickets were sold out in three hours when they went on sale on May 16.

Police yesterday warned against spending the night outside the stadium.

They also cautioned the public against causing any commotion or behaving provocatively during the concert.

Cheras police chief Zam Halim Jamaluddin said authorities would not hesitate to take action against those found to have violated laws, either during or after the show. – November 22, 2023
