Shahidan to submit motion against PKR MP for claiming polygamy a PAS teaching

PAS man wants Sim Tze Tzin to apologise, retract remarks in now-deleted social media post

KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (Arau-PN) is to submit a motion to the Dewan Rakyat speaker demanding a Pakatan Harapan lawmaker apologise for saying on social media that “polygamy is a PAS teaching”.

Shahidan today singled out Sim Tze Tzin (Bayan Baru-PH) who had posted the remarks on social media earlier. The post has since been deleted.

However, Shahidan said Sim should also apologise and retract his remarks.

“If he does not do it, I will file a motion tomorrow,” he said.

Deputy Speaker Alice Lau then said he should do so.

The issue of polygamy was raised in Parliament yesterday after Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (Kubang Kerian-PN) suggested it as a “solution” to the “problem” of unmarried women.

This prompted Yeo Bee Yin (Puchong-PH) to slam him as “sexist”, and she also told the PAS leader to stop seeing single women as a “problem” that needed fixing.

Today, Wanita DAP head Teo Nie Ching highlighted that polygamy has been a subject raised more than once in the Dewan Rakyat by Perikatan Nasional MPs, and said this was “unthinking and disrespectful” of women.

In Parliament earlier today, Tuan Ibrahim was reported taking Sim to task, accusing the PKR lawmaker of interfering in other religions.

Tuan Ibrahim stressed that polygamy was in fact, a teaching in Islam, and not “PAS’ teaching”. – November 23, 2023
