Continuous downpours in east coast, northern peninsula states: MetMalaysia

Monsoon surge set to last till Nov 28, department says

4:34 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – The Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) predicts continuous downpours in Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Pahang, Perlis, Penang and Perak until next Tuesday.

The forecast is based on weather analysis models, where the monsoon surge is estimated to last until November 28.

Meanwhile, a low-pressure weather system is forming in the South China Sea and is expected to surge westbound.

“The condition will increase potential humidity, leading to continuous rain in the east coast and north Malaysia together with strong winds and rough seas in the South China Sea,” it said today.

The department also predicted that thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds have high potential in other states too.

In a separate post, the department mentioned some affected areas under the “bad” category are in Terengganu and Kelantan, consisting of Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Jeli, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Machang, Pasir Puteh and Kuala Krai, which will experience continuous rainstorms until Sunday.

Some areas placed under the “caution” category are Kelantan (Gua Musang) and Pahang (Jerantut and Kuantan).

Meanwhile, MetMalaysia predicted heavy rains will affect some areas in Perlis, Kedah and Pulau Pinang, and in the Perak districts of Kerian; Larut, Matang and Selama; Hulu Perak; Kuala Kangsar; and Manjung on November 25 and 26. – November 24, 2023
