Masjid Tanah MP to question government's strategy to curb social media misuse leading to suicides, particularly on TikTok

9:12 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Suicides due to cyberbullying and the success of the Rakan Muda programmes are among the issues that will be discussed during the question-and-answer session at today’s Dewan Rakyat sitting.

According to the Order Paper on the Parliament website, Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (Masjid Tanah-PN) will ask the communications and digital minister to state measures taken to prevent social media misuse to the extent that suicide cases have been reported as a result of cyberbullying on the TikTok platform.

Meanwhile, Sim Tze Tzin (Bayan Baru-PH) will ask the youth and sports minister to outline the Rakan Muda programmes’ successes to date, as well as how the programmes have helped to unite communities and combat 3R (race, religion, and royalty) extremism in the country.

Also listed is a question from Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani (Titiwangsa-BN) to the domestic trade and cost of living minister about the amount of subsidised cooking oil the ministry distributes each month to B40 households and micro-businesses.

Meanwhile, Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden (Alor Star-PN) will question the local government development minister about the steps taken to implement the recommendations of the Task Force on Private Housing and Abandoned Projects, which was recently established.

The Dewan Rakyat will then resume committee debate on Supply Bill 2024, which is now in its final day.

This week is the final week of the Dewan Rakyat session, which began on October 9 and ends on Thursday. – November 27, 2023
