156 business events, international conferences to bring in RM2.3 bil: Tiong

In line with this, Motac, Melaka govt ready to host World Tourism Day in 2025

PUTRAJAYA – Malaysia is set to generate RM2.3 billion due to economic impact from 156 business events and international conferences hosted between 2024 to 2026, said Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister (Motac) Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

In line with this, Motac and the Melaka government is set to organise and host the World Tourism Day (WTD) and World Tourism Conference (WTC) 2025 scheduled for September 27 to 29 in 2025.

Malaysia, Tiong said, had been selected as the host country for the WTD 2025 celebration programme with the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation”.

He said the nomination was approved during the United Nation’s World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) 25th general assembly held on October 19 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

“We had proposed for the WTD 2025, to be held along with WTC 2025’s seventh edition, which is an international conference jointly organised by Malaysia and UNWTO every three years,” he told reporters after co-chairing the kick-off meeting for both events with Melaka chief minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh at the ministry, here, today.

Tiong said both programs, hosted in Melaka. will bring together more than 3,000 international and local participants from 159 member countries.

Approximately 500 UNWTO private sector members including ministers of tourism, heads of national tourism organisations and global tourism industry figures will also be attending both events. – December 4, 2023
