Zayn Rayyan’s injuries include strangled neck, wounds on body: police source

Cops certain of foul play in death of 6-year-old autistic boy who went missing on Tues

8:00 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Police are certain that 6-year-old autistic boy Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin had been murdered based on the injuries found on his body.

A source from the force told Scoop that there were signs of strangulation on the child’s neck as well as “other injuries” on all of his body parts.

“The body was found intact but there were indications of asphyxiation and injuries all over his remains,” the source said.

“The post-mortem was done in a span of five hours to ensure a thorough inspection of everything (needed to assist in the investigations).

On whether there were potential signs of sexual abuse, the source said that police were awaiting a report from the pathologist.

Earlier, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the parents of Zayn Rayyan would be recalled for questioning amid the police’s move to cast its net wide in investigations.

This comes in the wake of the formation of a special task force to investigate the alleged murder.

Hussein said the probing team will also be roping all neighbours and those in the community who knew the boy, to assist in the investigations.

“We will be recalling the parents and anyone with links to the boy to gain more details to investigate (the murder) from all angles,” he told Scoop, adding investigators would leave no stones unturned on the matter.

Hussein did not reveal the size of the special task force and said police have yet to identify any suspects so far.

Earlier today Hussein said that Zayn Rayyan’s death was classified as a case of murder, adding that the case is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Zayn Rayyan, who was reported missing since noon in Damansara Damai, last Tuesday, was found dead in a stream 200m from his residence, last night.

The boy was last seen at his home in Blok R, Apartment Idaman, Jalan PJU 10/1 Damansara Damai, Petaling Jaya at 12pm.

Following that, the body of the child was sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for post-mortem.

Meanwhile, Hussein told Scoop that the area of the boy’s residence had a “moderate” crime rate, and was not known as a hotspot for criminal elements.

“As of now, there are no main suspects in mind, but we will be investigating all parties.” – December 7, 2023
