KUALA LUMPUR – Taipei has emerged as the top choice for Malaysian travellers in 2024, according to digital travel platform Agoda, as the nation anticipates an exciting year of travel with six enticing long weekends and numerous public holidays.

The Taiwanese capital is claiming the top spot for Malaysian globetrotters in 2024, a significant leap from its fourth-place ranking in 2023.

Known for its vibrant street markets, cultural richness and iconic Taipei 101, the city offers a seamless blend of tradition and modernity, making it the preferred choice for Malaysian travellers, according to the Singapore-based Agoda.

Tokyo follows closely as the second-most coveted destination for 2024, reflecting the evolving preferences and allure of vibrant cities for Malaysians.

Thailand maintains its popularity, with Bangkok securing the third spot and Hat Yai in fourth, while Seoul surpasses Singapore to secure fifth, solidifying its status as a premier destination for Malaysian travellers in 2024.

Turning to domestic travel, Kuala Lumpur takes the lead as the preferred destination, with its dynamic blend of culture, innovation and diversity providing a consistently fresh experience for travellers.

Penang, largely considered to be Malaysia’s culinary mecca, follows closely in second place, seamlessly blending historical charm with a thriving cafe scene.

Nature-rich destinations also take centre stage, with Kota Kinabalu and Langkawi claiming the third and fifth spots, respectively.

Johor Bahru secures the fourth position, offering a diverse range of experiences with vibrant theme parks, seaside retreats and world-class golf courses.

The rankings are based on bookings made on Agoda between October and mid-November 2023, for trips scheduled in 2024.

Agoda, a digital travel platform, aims to provide attractive deals on a global network of 3.9 million hotels and holiday properties worldwide, along with flights, airport transfers and more. – December 8, 2023
