KUALA LUMPUR – The Royal Selangor Club (RSC) has introduced its namesake scholarship scheme in a bid to champion education and uplift the lives of its employees, particularly those within the B40 income group.

This initiative, launched in May, has raised RM97,000 to date and it anticipates reaching a target of RM200,000 through monthly RM10 donations from its members in November and December.

RSC president M. Jayakumar, at the launch event today, said the personal inspiration behind the scholarship was his father’s efforts to support their large family.

“My father was a labourer, and there were 11 of us in the family. Education was the only way out.

“This became a strong motivation for me to start this initiative, which also reflects the club’s commitment to the welfare and educational aspirations of its employees,” he said.

The scholarship assistance will be in the form of grants and interest-free loans, with applications reviewed and approved by the general committee.

Focusing initially on aiding 25 deserving individuals, the club aims to provide one-time grants and interest-free loans tailored to cover initial expenses like registration and deposits.

For recipients within the B40 category eligible for PTPTN, the initiative serves as a supplementary fund supporting certificate, diploma, advanced diploma, and degree programs.

Jayakumar added that the club is committed to provide support by offering internships for scholarship recipients pursuing studies in finance, hospitality, and maintenance-related courses. – December 8, 2023
