[UPDATED] Zayn Rayyan murder: no signs of long-term abuse, as cops await DNA evidence

Fingerprint and DNA results from the Chemistry Department to aid in the identification of suspects are on the way

PETALING JAYA – Police have confirmed that no signs of long-term abuse were found on autistic child Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, whose body was found by a stream in Damansara Damai on Wednesday night.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan told a press conference here that the post-mortem results on Zayn Rayyan’s body showed that the victim did not sustain injuries indicating physical abuse over an extended period of time.

“There were no signs of physical abuse having been imposed on the boy, nor were there any indications that the boy was subject to abuse.

“(Zayn Rayyan’s) family was a normal one that took care of the boy. Members of the public should consider their feelings and avoid spreading false information,” said Hussein.

Hussein also said police were now waiting for fingerprint and DNA results from the Chemistry Department to aid in the identification of the suspects involved.

The process also involves the screening of fingerprint data to detect whether a suspect has been involved in a prior criminal case, including sex offenders.

“The forensic results can help police to get details that lead to those involved (suspects). We hope we will get a result in two or three days,” he said.

Hussein said police will continue house-to-house inspections to complete the investigation.

“Police will do their best, and we are still collecting physical evidence around the scene of the incident.

“We are still conducting house-to-house inquiries and so far we have completed the three blocks that started the investigation from last night until this morning.

“We will continue for tonight, which involves 18 blocks with more than 2,400 residential units here,” he said.

Yesterday, police classified Zayn Rayyan’s death as murder, investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Zayn Rayyan was reported missing since noon last Tuesday in Damansara Damai, and was last seen at his home in Blok R, Idaman Apartment, Jalan PJU 10/1 Damansara Damai, Petaling Jaya. – December 8, 2023
