Facebook users have voiced their recollections of the incident, which the sister believes should be provided to authorities

KUALA LUMPUR – Family and friends of deceased 17-year-old road victim, Muhammad Zaharif Affendy Muhd Zamrie, have called on witnesses to come forward and provide their statements to the police.

In a social media post, Nur Zawani Muhd Zamrie, the victim’s sister, urged a Facebook user named Ameer Ruzairi to become a witness in the ongoing investigation of the incident.

“I request those who know (Ameer) to help me find him. I need him to be a witness to my brother’s case. I am begging,” the 28-year-old said.

In a Facebook comment, Ameer said he witnessed the incident, alleging that the police officer had chased the victim around the residential area. 

“At a distance of four to five metres between the motorcycle and car, (the victim) slowed down his motorcycle with the hopes that the chasing car would follow suit.

“However, the car hit the victim, and its two right tyres crushed the victim’s abdomen. I witnessed the accident exactly in front of it,” Ameer claimed, adding that he was by the roadside at that time.

Meanwhile, another Facebook post by a user named Zetty Zamrie, said several people at the scene informed her that Zaharif was deliberately hit, while she (Nur Zawani) was treating him.

However, she said she could not pinpoint who made the statement amid the chaos.

“I need witnesses of the incident to come forward and lodge a report to the Ipoh police. I humbly beg (witnesses) to help me uphold the justice for my late brother.

“My parents lost their youngest child. We have come to terms with his passing, but we have not forgiven the person who mistreated him,” she said, accompanied by #justiceforzaharif and #SMKTamanJati hashtags. 

Yesterday, Ipoh police arrested a senior officer from the Kedah police contingent, following the incident at Jalan Taman Jati involving a Perodua Ativa and a Yamaha motorcycle.

According to the autopsy, the victim suffered chest and abdominal injuries caused by the crash, leading to his death at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver sustained no injuries.  

The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
