PETALING JAYA – It has been quiet at Damansara Damai’s Idaman Apartments here as police presence is muted today despite the ongoing investigation into the murder of 6-year-old Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin.

A number of media personnel has been stationed here as early as 9am but based on observation, police activities have been minimal as of 5.30pm.

Earlier today, Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan was reported as saying that no new leads have emerged in the investigation but 172 statements have been recorded from residents.

“The investigation is ongoing, and so far, no new leads have been found. My team continues to search for clues in the area.”

Zayn Rayyan’s body was found on December 6 some 100m from his residence, a day after he was reported missing.

Subsequently, the police reclassified the case, from a missing person to a murder.

In its latest development, two children, believed to be witnesses in police’s ongoing investigations, assisted the forensic unit team at the apartments yesterday.

Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain had said in a press conference that Zayn Rayyan was likely killed elsewhere and not where his body was found.

Meanwhile, Hussein Omar believed that a single individual was responsible for Zayn Rayyan’s death, based on evidence and injuries found on the victim’s neck and body.

The incident had also instilled fear among residents in the area, all of whom urged the joint management board to strengthen the area’s security. – December 16, 2023
