Tanker lorry ablaze on road to Genting from Gombak, backing up traffic

Elsewhere, traffic is building up on northbound highways and an accident on the PLUS has hampered movement

10:12 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – A tanker lorry went up in flames from an accident at 8.27am today heading to Genting Highlands from Gombak, resulting in a temporary road closure.

According to the X account belonging to the East Coast Expressway, traffic is backed up as authorities are working to clear the accident debris.

The road from Gombak toll plaza heading to Genting Highlands is temporarily closed as of 9.11am.

Motorists heading to Genting Highlands from Gombak are advised to use the alternative route via the Genting Sempah rest stop (R&R).

Traffic on major highways are expected to be slow due to the long Christmas break and school holidays.

Meanwhile, traffic on major highways have started to build up this morning.

A Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) spokesman told Bernama that traffic was congested and moving slowly northbound from Sungai Buloh to Bukit Beruntung as of 9.30am.

There was also an accident at KM426.5 southbound from Bukit Tagar to Bukit Beruntung, with the right lanes on both sides still closed, causing an 11-km gridlock heading north while traffic heading south is still under control.

There was also an accident at PLUS Expressway (KM182.2 northbound from Jasin to Ayer Keroh) with the right lane obstructed, causing 4-km of congestion. – December 23, 2023
