Tragedy strikes Singaporean family’s seaside Christmas getaway

49-year-old man pulled under the waves, while son receives treatment in hospital

KUALA LUMPUR – A Singaporean man is feared to have drowned after being struck by waves while swimming near a hotel in Desaru, Kota Tinggi today.

In the 12.33pm incident, the man, Isaac Kelvin Tan Lee Thong, 49, remains missing, while his son, Gabriel Ian Tan Way Ping, 16, was rescued by civilians.

He was sent to Hospital Kota Tinggi (HKT) for further treatment.

Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Masri Ibrahim said the search and rescue (SAR) operation to locate the missing man is ongoing, with 17 personnel and a boat unit out in the treacherous waters. – December 27, 2023
