PUCHONG – The first phase of iron piling needed to stabilise the landslide area in Taman Wawasan here, is to be completed this Sunday, according to the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) mayor.

Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim said that as of yesterday, 73% of the 375 iron piles required have been installed, and the work will finish at the end of the month.

A second phase of iron piling involving 400 piles has also begun, with 115 of them installed.

“Phase one is to be fully completed by the end of this month,” Fauzi told Scoop at the site today.

“For phase two and the next step after that, we need further studies by the relevant agencies which are monitoring the situation.”

These studies involve technical reports on the safety of surrounding houses and soil movement in the area, he added.

At the site today, work to erect a rock wall was also being carried out in front of the houses affected by the landslide that occurred on Jalan Wawasan 3/9 on December 16 after a heavy downpour.

The rock embankment is for the purposes of laying down a foundation for a path that will allow vehicles in the affected houses to be driven out.

As for a town hall meeting with residents, Fauzi said there were no such plans as of yet, as the focus is on repairing and strengthening the affected area.

Previously, Selangor state infrastructure and agriculture exco, Izham Hashim said an initial report on the landslide found that a cracked monsoon drain had caused the surrounding soil to become waterlogged, leading to soil movement and the landslide. – December 28, 2023
