Landslides ahead, warn road users on East-West Highway

Earthfall due to non-stop rain covering half the road in some places, say netizens

1:41 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Continuous heavy rain has led to landslides at some locations across the East-West Highway from Jeli in Kelantan to Gerik, Perak, covering half of the road in some places.

Ahmad Zulkamal Ibrahim shared in the Pengguna Lebuhraya Timur Barat (JELI-GRIK) Facebook group that there were two landslide locations along the highway at Tasik Pergau and Tasik Banding.

He warned other road users on the same highway to be cautious.

Another Facebook user, Ammar Muhd, also posted a cautionary note that trees had fallen onto the road covering one lane in some parts.

The DUN Kuala Balai service centre Facebook page, meanwhile, shared photos of a collapsed road at Lata Janggut in Jeli, which it said had left 50 families stranded in Kg Janggut Seberang.

Meanwhile, the number of flood victims in Kelantan, Terengganu, Johor and Pahang has decreased with 14,891 people at 60 temporary evacuation centres this morning, compared to 16,919 victims last night.

Kelantan still has the highest number of people affected by the floods, with 13,976 individuals at 40 temporary evacuation centres in Pasir Mas, Kuala Krai, Tumpat and Jeli. – December 30, 2023
