Bersatu reps tell govt to focus on steering nation while PAS leader says party will only consider move benefitting the people

KUALA LUMPUR – Opposition figures are dismissing their parties’ involvement in Langkah Dubai move, which is said to be hatched to topple Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s administration.

PAS spiritual adviser Datuk Hashim Jasin said he is not aware of such schemes, and that his party would only consider them if it benefits the people.

“Such matters have been commonly raised by various quarters before this, especially (matters) that involve PAS.

“PAS will not hold such a movement, unless whatever that is being done would bring good to society,” he told Scoop.

Meanwhile, Bersatu’s Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan said instead of worrying about possible external threats, the government should put more emphasis on steering the country.

“If this coalition (unity government) is cohesive, then there is nothing for them to worry about,” he said in a message to Scoop.

“Rather than harping about this, (Anwar) should instead focus on creating a clear narrative and vision for his administration.”

Echoing similar sentiments, Bersatu Youth chief and Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal claimed the rumour was only a desperate move as the government could not alleviate the concerns of the people.

This is in light of the halt of diesel subsidies and tax implementations on low-value goods beginning next year, he added.

“I don’t know how J-Kom (Community Communications Department) obtained this information, which has no relation to what is happening in Malaysia, when we know that MPs are busy helping the people deal with the floods at the end of the year,” he said in a social media post today.

However, Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam said Langkah Dubai was allegedly masterminded by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his right-hand man Tun Daim Zainuddin.

Daim, who is being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for graft and money laundering, was said to be willing to fork out hundreds of millions of ringgit to “buy over” government MPs.

“There are allegations saying that Daim is willing to spend RM750 million to buy over 15 (government) MPs.

“If Daim is willing to spend huge amounts of money on (buying over) MPs before he has even managed to secure the Agong’s blessing, I consider that really stupid,” Lokman told Scoop today.

Yesterday, J-Kom Deputy Director-General Datuk Ismail Yusop said in a Facebook post that Langkah Dubai was started during a recent vacation undertaken by Perikatan Nasional leaders and government officials to the United Arab Emirates.

During the overseas visit, a meeting supposedly took place to assign specific tasks to persons responsible for identifying government MPs who were likely to switch their support to the opposition with inducements and pave the way for a backdoor government. – December 30, 2023
