I’m not involved: Abdul Rahman lodges police report over Langkah Dubai claims

Deputy HR minister counters allegations of conspiring to topple unity govt

KUALA LUMPUR – Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad has strongly refuted his alleged involvement in the so-called “Langkah Dubai” aimed at toppling the unity government.

Earlier today, the Lipis MP from Umno filed a police report in response to the accusations circulating on social media.

Rahman, accompanied by nearly 100 supporters, including Umno division heads and committee members as well as several non-governmental organisations, filed the police report regarding a viral video posted on a YouTube channel.

Rahmad said the accusations were baseless and fueled by malicious intent to create controversy and anxiety among Malaysians.

In a statement, he said he was taking legal action against the “Halim Romli” channel on YouTube over the alleged spread of false information.

“While I have been in Malaysia, especially in Lipis, fulfilling community programmes, the allegations surfaced, claiming my involvement in a plot against the unity government. This is a deliberate attempt to tarnish my reputation, and legal measures will be pursued to clear my name,” Rahman said.

Expressing disappointment at the timing of the accusations, Rahman highlighted the potential harm to the economy and foreign investment, emphasising the importance of a stable administration for job opportunities, especially for the youth.

On Saturday, Community Communications Department Deputy Director-General Datuk Ismail Yusop claimed that opposition party leaders, along with several government politicians, had conspired in Dubai to bring down the unity government.

The alleged conspiracy involved influential political figures, including a former prime minister and finance minister, collaborating with the opposition and purportedly using foreign sources to destabilise the current administration led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. – January 1, 2024
