PUTRAJAYA – The government’s Central Database Hub (Padu), will undergo several phases of implementation, beginning with data integration at the federal agency level, and subsequently progressing to the state government.
Economy Ministry secretary-general Datuk Nor Azmie Diron said the initial phase of collecting administrative data for the development of Padu will encompass ministries and agencies that are equipped with their own databases.
“Government agencies operating at the state and district levels also possess a diverse range of granular data, extending down to the local and high-frequency levels.
“Therefore, the involvement of all government agencies in data sharing for the next phase is a fundamental aspect in our efforts to enhance the completeness of information in Padu,” he said in his speech during the launching of Padu today.
Nor Azmie said that, so far, most agencies at the federal level have agreed to supply data for the system.
Among the agencies involved are the National Registration Department, Public Service Department, Inland Revenue Board, Employees’ Provident Fund, Road Transport Department, Education Ministry, and Tenaga Nasional Bhd.
“Padu also requires crucial information from the state government and local authorities, including the State Secretary’s Office, for salary, income, and civil servants’ pension data, as well as special assistance details.
“In addition, data is also needed from the Islamic Religious Council for information on marriage and divorce status and state zakat agencies for zakat givers and receivers.
“Data collection also involves the office or agency responsible for matters related to land ownership, local authorities for residential data, and service providers for information on utilities,” he added.
Nor Azmie further said that for the next phase, various other agencies at both state and local government levels will also participate to guarantee the integration of more comprehensive information into the Padu system.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to launch Padu at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre today.
Padu is a system encompassing the individual and household profiles of Malaysian citizens and permanent residents.
The Economy Ministry also announced on its Facebook page that the system will be made accessible to all Malaysians following the launch ceremony.
Padu’s objective is to establish a secure, comprehensive, and near real-time primary national database, facilitating more accurate data analytics for the development of data-driven policies and decision-making processes.
Additionally, it aims to enable targeted policy implementation for maintaining a balanced fiscal position – January 2, 2024
