Kota Kemuning bank’s auto shutter claims intoxicated man as victim

Victim is suspected of being inebriated when bank’s door descended on his neck

5:12 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – A man was found dead in the early hours this morning, after the automatic shutters at a local bank in Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam had apparently pinned him to the floor for six hours.

Shah Alam district police chief Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said checks on the CCTV footage at the premises showed that the victim, who appeared to be inebriated, was lying down at the entrance to the bank’s ATM area at 11.48pm on January 1.

“On January 2 at 12.01am, the automatic shutters closed, causing the victim’s neck to be stuck between the shutter door and the floor.

“At 6am, the shutter door reopened. The victim was declared dead at the scene by a medical assistant from the Tuanku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang,” Iqbal said in a statement.

Iqbal said police received initial reports from the public at 7.29am of an unconscious man in front of the bank.

He added that the case contains no criminal elements and checks on the deceased’s body found no signs of other injuries.

No identification documents were found on the victim.

The case is being investigated as an instance of sudden death. Those with information on the accident can contact investigation officer Mohd Shahrul at 0123630512. – January 2, 2024
